Gripsholmsskolan

Gripsholmsskolan is an independent school in Mariefred, founded in 2009, with around 480 pupils from preschool class to year 9 and a philosophy built on brain, heart and health. We redesigned and rebuilt their website from the ground up in Framer, replacing a decade-old WordPress site with more than sixty menu items and no mobile layout. The new site is a focused set of pages built around three visitors: parents applying, parents of current pupils, and people who want to work at the school. It includes a clear application page, a news section the staff run themselves, pages for every stage from preschool to year 9, a staff directory, and the compliance pages a Swedish school is required to have.

Overview

Gripsholmsskolan had a website that had grown for fifteen years without ever being taken apart. Every policy, curriculum and internal routine had ended up in the menu, the layout was fixed-width with no mobile version, and the one thing a parent actually comes for, how to apply, was buried. We started over. The new site is a complete redesign and rebuild in Framer, organised around the people who use a school website rather than around the school's filing system.

Structure and Content

More than sixty navigation links became a handful: about the school, news, the stages from preschool to year 9, contact, and a permanent, highly visible button to apply for a place. We rewrote the content that mattered, dropped what didn't belong on a public site, and added a header search for anyone who wants to jump straight to something. The result is seventeen focused pages instead of a sprawl.

Admissions and Stages

The application page explains the admission criteria for the preschool and the school side by side, makes clear that a single application covers both, and sends parents directly to the form. Preschool, after-school care and the F to 9 school each have their own page, so families can see how the whole journey fits together.

News the School Runs Itself

The Aktuellt section is built on the Framer CMS. Staff add a post, it appears on the news page, the latest items show on the homepage, and the headline runs in a ticker under the hero. The school updates it without needing us.

People and Compliance

A staff directory with contact details per person, a jobs page with a substitute list, and the headteacher's own words about the school. Alongside that, the pages a Swedish school is required to have: a complaints procedure, a whistleblowing channel, a support fund for pupils, and a GDPR policy, each on its own clear page written for parents.

Mobile and Search

Every page is built mobile first. Each has its own hand-written title and description, clean readable URLs, a social preview image, and a sitemap, so the school shows up properly when families search for a school in Mariefred.

Ongoing Maintenance

We stay on after launch to keep the site running and help the school keep it current through the rhythm of the school year.

What this involved
